Samhain is a yearly ritual to turn the Wheel of the Year together; to grieve our Beloved Dead and celebrate the birth of babies that have been born. To acknowledge and honour the cycles of death, regeneration, and birth. We have been hosting this ritual on Salt Spring Island for 22 years.
In the spirit of honouring ancestors and the land, we’d like to acknowledge that this event is taking place on the unceded territories of the Hul’qumi’num and SENCOTEN speaking peoples. We offer our gratitude to the ancestors of this place, and to those who continue to tend to and continue to keep this land and its cultures and communities alive.
Let us come together in song, ritual, and community to bless those near and far who have died, and are on their way to the Afterlife.
To support the energy and magic of this Ritual, and to support our community members who are in Recovery, please respect this is a clean and sober event.
ACCESSIBILITY INFO:
If you have any symptoms of cold, flu, or COVID, please stay home, and take good care yourself.
In the larger area, accessibility priestesses will be on hand to help with any mobility-related requests, including moving around the room, bringing chairs for sitting, etc.
To accommodate those with compromised immune systems, there will be a clearly designated mask-required space. This allows for distancing for those who need. This space will be tended to by accessibility priestesses.
In the main area, masking is OPTIONAL.
CHILDREN: all ages are welcome! And, this is a slow, quiet-ish ceremony that may not be enjoyed by toddlers who would rather jump around and be loud. While we love the exuberance of children, feedback from Elders and those hard-of-hearing find it difficult to participate in the ceremony with loud children. Parents are welcome to bring children at their discretion.
TO BRING:
- Easy to serve food or drink (non-alcoholic) to enjoy after the ritual which will end approx 8:30. Fulford Hall does not have utensils. Consider making your ancestors favourite dish.
- Bring photos of your beloved dead, your ancestors. There will be altars available for you to place your items.
- Dress in high ritual garb, or common clothes. Basically, come as you are. (Though we find the Ancestors tend to love dress up!)
